GUIDE TO AUTHORS

The aims and scope of the journal encompass research articles, original research reports, reviews, short communications, and scientific commentaries from fundamental principles to practical applications in the broad field of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. For acceptance in MJFAS, a manuscript must be the right fit with the journal's focus and scope. 

The handling editor will read each paper and make the initial assessment of the paper's scope, language quality, figures quality, and plagiarism detection.

The submission of the manuscript to MJFAS requires the use of the MS Word template provided. Please download it by clicking the above icon. Click here for a video on how to submit an article in Open Journal System (OJS).

Manuscripts submitted to MJFAS must be original work that has not been published or under consideration for publication elsewhere. All submissions will be peer-reviewed. Submission to this journal proceeds totally online. Submissions mailed to the editorial office will not be processed. Use the following guidelines to prepare your article.

Submission

Submit your manuscript in the format of DOC or DOCX together with supplementary files;

(1) The submission of the manuscript to MJFAS requires the use of the MS Word template provided.
(2) All authors' names should be deposited in the metadata file (step 3). Please provide all authors' names in the article complete with their affiliations including country (example: Department of Mechatronic Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, 81310 UTM Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia) for indexing purposes

(3)A cover letter which describes the FOCUS AND SCOPE (which must be the right fit with the journal's focus and scope), NEW FINDING or NOVELTY STATEMENT,
(4) Author contribution statements (download the MS Word file here), and
(5) List of potential referees (at least 5 reviewers) with their research backgrounds and current institution email addresses. Please note that the reviewer must obtain a Ph.D. degree, and have published over 5 papers in related fields in past 5 years. Meanwhile, they must come from different institutions and have no conflicts of interest with all authors.

Note that the editor retains the sole right to decide whether or not the suggested reviewers are used.

Type of papers 

News and Updates: News and Updates articles are written to update the research community on an upcoming event or reports on a recent event of utmost importance. Items should be short and no longer than 200 words absent of any figures and tables with no more than 5 references. The full name for correspondence is included.

Letters: These items are short comments on current issues of interest that warrant an immediate response from the scientific and engineering community. Items should be short and no longer than 500 words absent of any figures and tables with no more than 5 references. Authors are limited to two per letter as it is a concise and precise communication.

Research Articles: Research Articles presents original research that is expected to present a major advancement and contribution to the body of knowledge or a particular area. Research Articles follows the format provided in the guide to authors. The content includes an abstract, an introduction, materials and methods, results and discussion, and a conclusion. The supplementary materials that support the paper's conclusions are welcomed.

Reviews: Review articles summarise and describe new developments of interdisciplinary significance as well as proposing new future research directions based on their reviews. Reviews contain an abstract, an introduction that outlines the main theme, subheadings, and the future direction for resolving research questions.

Methods and Protocols: Methods and Protocols are proposals of new or overviews of recent technical and methodological developments. Articles should present a new experimental, engineering, scientific or computational method, test, or procedure. The method described may either be completely new or may offer a better version of an existing method. Methods must be proven by its validation, its application to an important research question, and results illustrating its performance in comparison to existing approaches. Articles should possess thorough assessments of methodological performance and comprehensive technical descriptions that facilitate immediate application by researchers in the field.

Software, Database, and Datasets: Software articles should describe a computational tool, novel software or new algorithm implementations, web servers, and web services that would be a useful addition that represents a significant advance over previously published software (usually demonstrated by direct comparison with available related software). Database articles should describe a novel database that is readily accessible and data within the database should be attributed to a valid source. The database articles must be available for testing by anonymous reviewers. Datasets are articles that assist researchers in the archive, document, and distribute the datasets produced in their research to the entire academic community. Software or data must be freely available to non-commercial users and its availability and implementation must be clearly stated in the article.

Format paper

(1) The article can be in simple word format or in the MJFAS template which can be found here (DOCX).
(2) The main manuscript has to be in the range between 3500-9000 words without references and abstract with font size 9, Arial.
(3) The corresponding author should provide an official institution email address in the manuscript.

Abstract

A concise and actual abstract is required. The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the principal results, and major conclusions. An abstract is often presented separately from the article, so it must be able to stand alone. For this reason, References should be avoided, but if essential, they must be cited in full, without reference to the reference list. Also, non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided, but if essential they must be defined at their first mention in the abstract itself.

Keywords

Immediately after the abstract, provide a maximum of 5 keywords, avoiding general and plural terms and multiple concepts (avoid, for example, "and," "of"). Be sparing with abbreviations: only abbreviations firmly established in the field may be eligible. Use comma (",") to separate the keywords. These keywords will be used for indexing purposes.

Article structure: Divide your article into clearly defined sections. Any subsection may be given a brief heading. Each heading should appear on its own separate line.

Acknowledgements

A brief acknowledgment of not more than 50 words should be included at the end of the manuscripts, before the list of references. Acknowledgement could be made to funding body, institution/universities/organization or individual/person.

Example:

1. Acknowledgement to funding body (Grant number) : This work was supported by the Trust [grant numbers xxxx, yyyy]; the Natural Environment Research Council [grant number zzzz]; and the Economic and Social Research Council [grant number aaaa].

2. Acknowledgement to institution/universities/organization: We would like to thank XYZ University for their helpful feedback and support.

3. Acknowledgement to individual/person: We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our supervisor, Professor John Doe, for his valuable guidance and support throughout the research process. His expertise and insights were invaluable in shaping our research and helping us to overcome challenges.

Reference style

Reference formatting There are no strict requirements on reference formatting at submission. References can be in any style or format as long as the style is consistent. Where applicable, author(s) name(s), journal title/book title, chapter title/article title, year of publication, volume number/book chapter, and the pagination must be present. If you do wish to format the references yourself they should be arranged according to the following.

Use ISI Journal Title Abbreviation which can be found at http://www.efm.leeds.ac.uk/~mark/ISIabbr/A_abrvjt.html. References should be individually numbered in the order in which they are cited in the text (including tables and figure captions assuming they will be located where they are first mentioned in the text), and listed in numerical sequence on separate sheets at the end of the paper, typed in double spacing. The numbers (no alphabetical characters) should appear in the text at the appropriate places in square brackets [ ]. In the reference list, periodicals [1], books [2], multiauthor books with editors [3], proceedings [4], and patents [5] should be cited in accordance with the following examples:

Revision manuscript

Revised manuscripts should be returned including revision notes. The revision notes should address the issues raised in the referee report and clearly state per page (indicate paragraph and line) which changes have been made. Additional materials may be requested at the discretion of the editor.

(6) To insert graphics within the text or as a figure, chart, scheme, or table, create a new line and insert the graphic where desired. If your graphic is not visible, ensure that the Word Style is “Normal” with an automatic height adjustment. If the size of the artwork needs to be adjusted, re-size the artwork in your graphics program and re-paste the artwork into the template (maximum width for single-column artwork, 3.3 in. (8.5 cm); maximum width for double-column artwork, 7 in. (17.8 cm).
